Swift Kick is written with two purposes in mind:

1. To document my journey as I strive for a brand new mind, body, and soul.

2. To motivate others to change their lives as well.

This site features real life problems and real life attempts to solve them.  My hope is that my successes as well as my failures are in some way a benefit to all those who read it.  That some one out there is inspired or motivated to try some of the ideas here and apply them to their own life.

How I ended up with a website…

My name is Nick Hamulak.  That’s pronounced “Ham-you-lack”, just in case you were wondering.  My grandparents are Ukrainian immigrants who came and settled in Cleveland, Ohio after World War II.

I live in Columbus, Ohio with my beautiful Fiance Shannon and our two pets, Lana the puppy, and Hanky the ferret.  I am a financial analyst by

trade, but helping people improve their lives through this site is my passion. I’m moving slowly towards this site paying the bills for me and this page tells you how.

Many people tell me that they’d love to have their own web page, especially one that pays the bills, but they lack the time, money, skills or all of the above.

A common problem, and one that I have faced many times myself, along with other setbacks. But I solved the problems, I overcame the setbacks, and so can you. How? Read my story…

Get comfortable or live your dreams?

My dream has always been to be self employed.  To be completely free and determine my own destiny.  But my biggest fear is that life will pass me by while I pay the bills and wait for the perfect time and circumstance.

I have always wanted to take the plunge.  The thought that my 9 to 5 job and life in the suburbs is all there is…Scary!

I studied at The Ohio State University to become a financial planner.  I have always loved the idea of being able to help people in some way.  But there aren’t a lot of people who will give their life’s savings, their retirement fund, to a new adviser just out of college.   So I moved on to accounting.  I had to make a living somehow.

I knew this wasn’t the life I wanted right away.

I would come home from work, miserable, and look at my fiance and my puppy and think, “they deserve better than this”.

But how do I make that happen?

…One of the best things to ever happen to me!

I never would have set out on this journey on my own before.  It is very easy to feel comfortable when you settle in to a life of mediocrity.  But I discovered that I do have it within me to attain total freedom!

…Then doing some research online I started to see websites that were inspiring.  There were sites that were truly helping people improve their lives.  There were people like Leo at Zen Habits and people like Jim Rohn and Zig Ziglar who have been changing lives for decades who inspired me.

And I made up my mind:  This is what I wanted to do with my life!

Reality quickly set in…I had absolutely no web design skills whatsoever.

I decided I should probably focus on my career as an accountant and make sure I have a job so I can pay the bills.  But I could always tell there was something missing.  I was never going to be completely happy with my life.    Luckily, it was always there in the back of my mind, waiting for me to act on it.

Time to take the plunge…

I still had my day job.  That was my safety net.  But I have to get the ball rolling or I would lose my mind.

My Fiance understood:  “Find something you love, life’s to short to be miserable…”

My family thought I was nuts…”You are going to have a website…ooook!”

I had it coming from both sides…and the next few months would be both invigorating and unbelievably frustrating at the same time…

I read everything I could on building a website…I tried learning HTML and dreamweaver.  I bought website templates and guides.  Everything I could get my hands on in regards to building my own website.

But it didn’t stop there.  I immersed myself in books on personal development (I think I may have read them ALL at this point haha) , I revisited my past life of health, fitness and personal training.  I studied and studied hard!

…Half way there

I was half way to where I wanted to be.  There are years and years under the belt as far as the knowledge I wanted to share.   But there was still a big hole in my plans.

I still couldn’t build a website!

So I set myself a new goal:

“I will find a way, some way to build a site that allows me to share my passion with the world and pay the bills and take care of my family doing it.  A job that has me jumping out of bed in the morning eager to get to work.   I will reach this goal if it is the last thing I do on this earth.”

Sounds unrealistic? I assure you, it’s not. If I learned one thing in life it’s that nothing is impossible! Think about your life. What is it that you really want from it? And turn off the little voice that keeps saying, “It can’t be done.” It can.

The Solution…

…is so simple, I wonder why it took me so many years to find it: Make a living doing what you love! You can. I’ll show you how I’m doing it.

My passion is helping people change their lives.  But you can do what I do with any passion, idea, skill or hobby.  Whatever it is that makes you happy…and you can do it in your spare time!

First I thought about writing a book.  Still a goal of mine, but not the place to start.  I quickly realized that the unknown author market is not where I wanted to try and kick start this dream.  Through all the frustration and determined searching for a way to build a great website, I somehow found SBI.
